DeepSeek: The Honeyed AI With a Hidden Cost
One of my recent posts called DeepSeek a “honeyed AI at a sweet price,” but warned that it could be a honeypot in disguise. Powerful potential, yes, but with deeply hidden costs.
DeepSeek, while impressive, is shrouded in secrecy. Crucial details about its architecture and security protocols are scarce, raising red flags for data protection. When AI models run on external servers, privacy isn’t guaranteed. And when the model itself is subject to foreign cybersecurity laws, your data could be at risk in ways you might not anticipate, similar to the criticisms surrounding TikTok.
So, what should IT managers be thinking about before deploying DeepSeek?

I dug into online news articles and even consulted AI models like ChatGPT-4o, Gemini, and Grok2, playing them off each other to glean insights. This culminated in a detailed table summarizing DeepSeek’s top security concerns and mitigation strategies. Here's a glimpse:

If you choose to integrate DeepSeek into your workflow, do so with caution, strong security measures, and clear compliance guidelines. And most importantly, lean on your cybersecurity professionals for guidance tailored to your organization’s needs.
